A little USS New Jersey History...
Launched in December 1943 on the first Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, New Jersey is the worlds most decorated battleship, having served in several wars. She served as flagship for the 5th Fleet as part of 'Operation Hailstone' and for the 3rd Fleet in the Phillipenes.
During the final months of World War II, New Jersey was overhauled at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and on 14 August she once again became flagship of the 5th Fleet under Admiral Spruance. Brief stays at Manila and Okinawa preceded her arrival in Tokyo Bay 17 September, where she served as flagship for the successive commanders of Naval Forces in Japanese waters until relieved in January 1946 by USS Iowa (BB-61).
After being decommissioned and recommissioned several times, USS New Jersey was decommissioned for the last time in 1991, having earned a Navy Unit Commendation for service in Vietnam and a total of 19 Battle and Campaign Stars for combat operations during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Lebanese Civil War, and service in the Persian Gulf.
